Treat Yourself to These Candy Insights

Trick or treat? Nope, it’s not a trick. These insights are for real. When it comes to the right time of year to enjoy a sweet treat, every time is right. But more specifically, we found that candy sales were the highest during Q4 when compared to the rest of the year.

Why does Q4 show the best sales year over year?

‘Tis the season for all of the holidays – consumers are getting ready to stuff their pockets full of sweet treats. Interestingly enough, during this time, chocolate is purchased 15% more often than non-chocolate candy. Even over the pandemic in 2020, when trick or treating was a little different, our insights show that people still needed their candy.

But why a decrease in sales at the beginning of the year?

Once the new year hits, it’s that time for fitness goals and resolutions. A notable insight is that Q1 2021 and Q1 2022 had dramatically fewer sales than Q4. We hypothesize consumers are serious about their new years’ resolutions, healthy eating and are choosing less sugar which explains the decrease in sales for the sweet stuff.

So, what does the rest of the year look like?

During the first half of 2022, our insights are showing additional increases in candy sales when compared to 2021 – leading us to believe that sales for all candy will continue to increase for the rest of the year. What a treat!
